Bio

I grew up in Portland, Oregon.  Although I started with classical piano, I played and listened to all of the different styles of the early sixties through today and my music is derived from the combination of folk, all forms of rock, jazz and blues, always with a strong focus on lyrics.

In the mid 70’s I moved from playing in bars to playing in churches.  Our group, Rohrbacker, Hendren & Kingen, was mentioned in Ken Scott’s Vintage Vinyl Jesus Music as “a quantum leap above most homegrown Christian projects.”  I recorded Everyone Knows in 2009, after a long absence from performing.  In 2012 I released Eternity’s Song, produced by Jay Koder.  The 10 songs of the CD all have Christian lyrics but are more blues/rock sounding than what you typically hear on Christian records.  Jay introduced the CD saying “Bob has been busy crafting his music for many years and has quite a large body of work to show for it.  His lyrics convey an inspirational spiritual message, and the music will rock your soul.”  Several people have told me this was the only CD in their player for over a year.

I’m working on producing videos now and doing solo acoustic performances.  I’ve also started doing secular sets with cover songs along with a few originals.  I’ve been working on these solo sets for several years now.  The sets are much more intimate than with a band and I can still play a surprising range of material with just my guitar and a looper.  Take a listen to some tracks or watch a video and let me know what you think.  Sign up for my email list and get a free download; I promise not to fill your inbox with spam.  You can buy CD’s and download tracks right here or just about anywhere you buy other music online.
